'End of Feud': Elon Musk meets Trump, Melania over 'lovely dinner' months after public spat
PTC News Desk: Months after prevailing tensions following a public spat between formal allies US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the duo appears to have repaired their strained relationship follo
"Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing," he said in a post on X with a picture.
The photo was taken at an event at the President’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, prompting social media users to speculate about a possible reunion between the two.
The meeting took place months after a very public falling-out between the two men. Elon Musk, who spent millions backing Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, had earlier served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from January until May 30, 2025, when his temporary government role ended.
DOGE came under strong criticism while Musk was in charge. In February, over 20 civil servants resigned, saying they did not want to use their skills to weaken important public services or risk government systems. They sent a joint resignation letter to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. After leaving his role, Musk openly attacked Trump’s major tax and spending law, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it wasteful and excessive. Tensions grew further when Musk briefly accused Trump on social media of having links to the Epstein files, a post he later deleted. The White House downplayed the incident, calling it unfortunate and saying Musk was frustrated over the legislation.
Trump responded by suggesting Musk was angry about the removal of incentives for electric vehicles and warned that federal contracts and subsidies for Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, could be reviewed.
Despite these clashes, signs of a patch-up appeared later in 2025. Trump and Musk were seen shaking hands at a memorial service in September, and Musk attended a White House dinner in November with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The dinner at Mar-a-Lago has sparked speculation that their personal and political relationship may be improving. Reactions on social media were mixed, with some people welcoming the apparent reconciliation and others doubting that the alliance has truly been restored.
