Ferry sinks off Mozambique coast, resulting in over 90 dead: Reports
PTC News Desk: According to reports, more than 90 individuals lost their lives in a devastating ferry accident off the north coast of Mozambique. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, saw only five individuals rescued out of the nearly 130 believed to have been onboard.
The passengers were reportedly fleeing from a cholera outbreak, as stated by Jaime Neto, the secretary of state for the province of Nampula, near the location of the incident. He emphasised that the ferry, which was overcrowded and unfit for passenger transportation, tragically sank, resulting in the loss of many lives, including numerous children.
While the details are still unfolding, government officials have yet to provide an official response to requests for comment from Reuters. The ill-fated vessel was en route from Lunga in the province to Mozambique Island, situated off the coast of Nampula, according to reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
