Henley Passport Index 2024: India slips to 85th position; France secures top spot
Henley Passport Index 2024: The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all the world's passports based on the number of visa-free destinations to which their holders have access. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the world's largest and most accurate travel information database. The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.
Recently, the Henley Passport Index released its latest ranking, dropping India by one place compared to the previous year, now standing at 85th position, down from 84th. Despite the increase in the number of countries offering visa-free access to its citizens from 60 to 62 in 2024, India slipped to the 85th position.
France secured the top position offering visa-free access to 194 countries. Alongside France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain also enjoy visa-free access to 194 nations.

The United States climbed to the 6th position, highlighting the strength of its passport despite its controversial anti-immigration policies.
Meanwhile, crisis-affected Pakistan maintained its 106th position, granting visa-free access to 34 countries, while Bangladesh dropped from 101st in 2023 to 102nd this year.
Maldives maintains its strong passport ranking, holding its position at 58th place. Maldivian passport holders benefit from visa-free travel to 96 countries.

China's ranking improved slightly to 64th place as it aims to revive its tourism industry by offering visa-free access to numerous European countries.
