PTC Web Desk:  A deadly explosion ripped through an area near Miryan police station in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, leaving at least two persons dead,  including a child,  and injuring 17 others, officials confirmed.

The police said the blast was triggered by a time-device planted in a motorcycle parked close to shops situated opposite the police station. While police personnel escaped unharmed, civilians present in the marketplace bore the brunt of the explosion. Several of the injured are said to be in serious condition.

According to Muhammad Noman Khattab, spokesperson for the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI), the wounded and deceased were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital for treatment and medico-legal formalities.

Emergency responders from Rescue 1122 reached the site immediately after the blast, taking victims to nearby health facilities and assisting in clearing the area.

Security was tightened soon after the incident, with a strong presence of Bannu police, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and the Quick Response Force (QRF) deployed at the scene. The area was sealed off as investigators began collecting evidence. Authorities also launched a search operation in surrounding localities to track down those responsible.

Officials stated that the Bomb Disposal Squad conducted a thorough sweep of the blast site to eliminate the possibility of any additional explosive devices.

Regional police officer Sajjad Khan later visited the hospital to meet the injured and assess the situation.

Bannu has witnessed recurring incidents of violence in recent months, amid a broader rise in militant activity across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this year, two minors were injured in a blast in the Domel area, with one later succumbing to injuries. In a separate incident, former Domel nazim Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir sustained injuries in a bomb attack outside his office.
