Pakistan embarrassed on global stage: Army Chief Asim Munir nearly stopped for security check at Munich
PTC News Desk: Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, experienced an awkward moment during his visit to Munich when a security official briefly checked his identification at an event venue. A video circulating on social media shows Munir arriving at the Munich Security Conference, where a security officer appeared to stop him near the entrance. In the footage, the official points to Munir’s name badge and gestures toward the ID card around his neck, asking him to display it properly and keep it facing outward.
“Can you turn that around?” the officer is heard saying, seemingly referring to the identification card.
The brief exchange, which occurred just outside the conference entry point, has since drawn attention online, with some commentators raising questions about the protocol surrounding the Pakistani army chief’s visit to Germany.
The Munich Security Conference, a prominent global forum for discussions on international peace and security, brings together world leaders, diplomats and defence experts each year to deliberate on major geopolitical issues.
Munir’s visit has also sparked protests from the Germany-based Sindhi political group Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), which described the invitation as “deeply regrettable.” Members of the organisation demonstrated outside the venue, highlighting concerns over alleged human rights violations in Pakistan.
