Youth Olympic Games Hockey Qualifier: Indian teams enter semis
Maintaining their slates clean, India men and women teams qualified for semi-finals in their respective sections in the Youth Olympic Games Hockey Qualifier in Bangkok on Friday.
While men team trounced Hong Kong 21-0 and Korea 12-5 in its last two Pool "A" engagements, Indian women defeated the hosts Thailand 9-0 in their last pool B game.
Both Indian men and women teams finished at top of their pools with maximum 12 and nine points, respectively.
In the semi-finals tomorrow, Indian women team will play Malaysia while the men team will play either Bangladesh or Pakistan depending upon the outcome of the last game of the pool B.
Indian men team won all four games and had a huge goal difference of 57 while Indian women while winning all its three pool games had a goal difference of 33.
In the men's section, skipper Vivek Parsad and Mohammad Alishan with 13 goals each shared the top goal scorer spot with Mohamad Anuar of Malaysia while in women's section, Sangita Kumari with 12 goals was second top scorer in the pool games behind Akari Nakagumi of Japan.
In its third pool game against Hong Kong, Mohhivam Anand, Sanjay,Yahdeep Siwach and skipper Vivek Parsad (three goals each), Rahul K. Rabhar (two) and Moirangthem Rabichandra (ne) were the scorers for India.
In the second game against Korea, skipper Vivek Parsad (four), Maninder Singh (three), Rahul K. Rajbhan and Sanjay (two each), and Mohammad Alishan were the scorers. For Krea, Jeong, P. Jang, Song Haeseong, M Cheon and Bae Soung were the scorers.
In the last pool game of women's section, Mumtaz Khan (four), Sangita Kumari (two), Ishika Chaudhary and Lalremsiami (one each) wee the scorers for India.
