Former Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu becomes13th Vice President

Hello Mr. VP! Former Union Minister and NDA's candidate Venkaiah Naidu wins Vice Presidential Elections, defeating Gopal krishna Gandhi and becoming the 13th Vice President of the Nation. M Venkaiah Naidu won by 516 votes out 760 valid votes. Gopalkrishna Gandhi got 244 votes. The voting for the election went till 5 pm with a total of 98.21 per cent members of Parliament exercised the right to vote. Some 771 voters of a collegium of 785 cast their vote. BJP came out to be the single largest party with 281 members out of 545 of Lok Sabha, and 58 members out of 245 in the Rajya Sabha. The NDA led by BJP has 33 members. Keeping high hopes on Venkaiah Naidu was totally worth it. Former Union Minister and senior Akali Leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who was in the hospital took permission from doctors to cast his vote. "It is my sacred duty to vote, illness or no illness", Dhindsa said. Although JD(U) has made alliance with BJP to form a new government in Bihar after breaking ties with ‘mahagathbandhan’. According to reports, they will be casting vote for Mr Gandhi, a former West Bengal governor. The existing term of the incumbent Hamid Ansari, who has held the post for two consecutive terms, will come to an end on August 10. -PTC News
