Kotkhai rape: HC grants 10 more weeks to CBI for completing the investigation

The High Court has granted 10 weeks to the CBI for completing the investigation into the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl from Kotkhai. An affidavit of the Director, CBI, has been filed before the court explaining the progress of the investigation. Apart from this, the CBI has also filed another status report. Kotkhai rape: High Court grants 10 more weeks to CBI During the course of the hearing, the counsel for the CBI, while filing another status report, asked for more time for the investigation on the root level. It said, the investigating agency was investigating the matter minutely and for this purpose, it required more time. Division Bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma listed the matter for hearing on March 28, after allowing the request of the CBI. Kotkhai rape: High Court grants 10 more weeks to CBI In its earlier order on July 19, the court on July 19 in the Kotkhai Rape Case had directed the CBI to constitute a 3-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a Superintendent of Police to investigate the rape and murder of the girl. It was on July 12, 2017, that the High Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter on the news reports published in the media. On July 17, the state had filed an application, urging the court to direct the CBI to take over the investigation in the incident. -PTC News
