12 dead in Assam hooch tragedy, many taken ill
A total of 12 people died and 30 others fell ill on Friday after consuming spurious liquor at a tea garden in Golaghat district. The incident took place at Salmira tea estate in Golaghat.

According to media sources, police received a call about the deaths. It reached the spot and found 12 dead people. The bodies were sent to Golaghat Civil Hospital for post-mortem. It also rushed ill people to the hospital.
27 people out of 30 were referred to the Jorhat Medical College for better treatment. The doctors told that condition of some of the people was serious.

Police conducted a preliminary investigation, during which some locals told it that several people consumed liquor from a particular seller. Most of them fell it immediately and were not hospitalized.
