6-year-old rescued from 100 ft. deep Borewell in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur, declared dead

A six-year-old boy who had fallen into a 100-feet-deep borewell in Gadriwala village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab on Sunday was rescued after nine hours but unfortunately was reported dead after medical examination.

According to reports, the army had been called in for the rescue operation. A JCB machine had been pressed into service to dig up a tunnel towards the borewell.

Efforts were being made to pull him out with the help of a clip as he had reportedly fallen into the borewell upside down.

The machine was able to dig only 15 feet in one and a half hours. The boy was reported to be stuck at 95-feet-mark in the borewell.

The incident is said to have taken place at 9 am. The child was trying to save himself from stray dogs when he fell into the borewell, sources said.
