Assam hooch tragedy: Death toll reaches 50; includes 7 women
The death toll in Assam hooch tragedy has reached 50 till Saturday morning. Seven women also died after consuming spurious liquor at a tea garden in Assam's Golaghat district. Police told the media that toll might increase as more than 30 people are undergoing treatment.

According to media reports, Samira tea garden workers consumed spurious liquor on Thursday night. Police has arrested two people in connection with the tragedy. The Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, has ordered an inquiry into the incident. He has suspended two excise officials.

Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya directed a team of department officials to conduct an inquiry into the incident. Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has demanded the resignation of the Excise Minister. He also urged the Chief Minister to provide adequate compensation to the next of the kin of the deceased.
