Amritsar jeweller brutally attacked, 425 gm of gold worth Rs 60 lakh looted in broad daylight; crime caught on camera
Victim Mukhtiar Singh had brought gold from his showroom to his residence last night to be delivered to a customer today
PTC Web Desk: A jeweller was seriously injured after being attacked by a group of armed assailants who looted more than 400 gram of gold from him in a daylight robbery near New Flower School, in Amritsar on Friday morning.
The victim has been identified as Mukhtiar Singh, a jewellery showroom owner based in the Sultanwind Road area. Police sources said Singh was carrying around 425 gram of gold at the time of the incident.
According to information, Mukhtiar Singh had brought the gold from his showroom to his residence on Thursday night. On Friday at around 10.30 am, he left home on his motorcycle to deliver the gold to a customer when the attack took place.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations suggest that a black car deliberately rammed into his motorcycle near New Flower School, forcing him to stop. Singh was then allegedly chased and assaulted by 8 to 10 attackers, who were armed with sharp-edged weapons, including swords. After severely injuring him, the assailants fled the scene with the gold.
Local residents alerted the jeweller’s family, who rushed him to a government hospital. Doctors have stated that his condition is stable.
Meanwhile, a relative of the victim said the family had been receiving extortion threats from alleged gangsters over the past few days. He alleged that they were warned of dire consequences if their demands were not fulfilled, and the family believes the attack may be linked to those threats.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Vishaljit Singh said the victim’s statement was being recorded and a detailed investigation was in progress.
CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined to identify and trace the attackers.
