CBI FIR figures Punjab Vigilance Bureau chief’s name but not as accused in Rs 13-lakh graft case probe
The FIR mentions that the “bribe was demanded” on Chauhan’s behalf for closure of a pending complaint.
PTC News Desk: The FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a corruption case involving VB officials figures the name of Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) chief director Sharad Satya Chauhan.
The FIR mentions that the “bribe was demanded” on Chauhan’s behalf for closure of a pending complaint. While Chauhan has not been named as an accused in the FIR, his name figures in the contents of the case registered by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The development could potentially add to his troubles in the coming days as he was considered one of the contenders for the post of Punjab DGP.
The FIR names inspector OP Rana, reader to Chauhan, private contractors Raghav Goyal and his father Vikas Goyal, alias Vicky Goyal, alleged accomplice Ankit Wadhawa and “unknown public/private persons” in connection with the bribery demand.
The FIR registered on May 11 by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI further read, “A written complaint was received from State Tax Officer Amit Kumar, a resident of Abohar, on May 8, alleging that Raghav Goyal and his father Vikas Goyal, private contractors, were acting as intermediaries on behalf of Sharad Satya Chauhan, DG (Vigilance), Punjab, and his reader OP Rana, and had demanded illegal gratification for securing closure/disposal of a complaint allegedly pending against him in the said office.”
The suspected offences under investigation include criminal conspiracy, demand of undue advantage by Public servant and taking undue advantage to influence a public servant by corrupt or illegal means or by exercise of personal influence.
