PTC News Desk: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday conducted raids at a residential tower in Mohali's Kharar where bags allegedly containing cash were reportedly thrown from a ninth-floor flat during the operation.
During the search operation, two bags allegedly containing cash bundles were reportedly thrown from the building premises.
Eyewitnesses said bundles of Rs 500 notes were found scattered on the ground floor of the society soon after the incident. Residents gathered at the spot while ED officials collected the cash bags. According to sources, nearly Rs 21 lakh was recovered, though the Enforcement Directorate had not officially confirmed the amount till the report was filed.
Officials of the central agency reportedly remained inside the flat for several hours, and the apartment was said to be locked from inside during the search. The flat is believed to belong to Nitin Bansal, although its ownership could not be independently confirmed.
According to the officials, the Enforcement Directorate is conducting searches at 12 locations in Mohali and Chandigarh on the Suntec City project, Ajay Sehgal, ABS Townships Pvt Ltd, Altus Builders, Dhir Constructions and associates involved in large-scale fraud in obtaining CLU licences from Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and cheating the public to collect hundreds of crores.
Sources also claimed that one of the raided locations was linked to a close associate of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. However, neither the ED nor the Punjab government has officially confirmed any political connection.
The raids were said to be part of a larger crackdown, with searches also carried out in Patiala at locations linked to people allegedly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party.
