Jalandhar police encounter: Two accused injured, linked to Batala trader firing case
During the encounter, the two suspects sustained gunshot injuries and were overpowered by the police
PTC Web Desk: A police operation near Nurpur in Jalandhar escalated into a brief gunfight with suspected gang members, resulting in injuries to the accused and the recovery of illegal weapons, officials said on Wednesday.
Police teams had reached the area after receiving inputs about the movement of two wanted suspects. As officers attempted to apprehend them, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party without warning.
In response, police personnel retaliated, leading to an exchange of around 10 to 11 rounds of gunfire between both sides. During the encounter, the two suspects sustained gunshot injuries and were overpowered by the police. Both injured men were immediately shifted to the civil hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.
According to investigators, the arrested suspects are associated with the Dadewala and Harry gangs, which have been linked to multiple criminal incidents in the region. Police officials said the accused were asked to surrender but they fired at the police instead.
During the operation, the police recovered two pistols from the suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest that the duo was also involved in the Batala firing incident, in which a local trader was targeted, prompting an intensive search operation by the police.
Further investigation is underway to identify other aides and establish the full extent of the gang’s activities.
