PTC News Desk: In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of Malkit Singh, an NRI based in Italy.

The accused have been identified as Bikramjit Singh alias Bikram and Karan.

The killing took place six days ago in Rajasansi, Amritsar, reportedly over a ransom demand.

The victim, Malkit Singh, had returned from Italy about a month and a half ago and had started building his house. At the time of the incident, he was working in the fields with his father when Bikramjit arrived with his associates and opened fire at him. The family alleged that Bikramjit had been demanding ransom from Malkit Singh and his family, and there was no other enmity between them.

The investigation has revealed that the arrested accused Bikramjit Singh, is associated with the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), who is currently facing several cases under the Explosives Act, attempted murder, and the Arms Act.

Bikramjit was also involved in the 2018 grenade attack at a religious site in Rajasansi that killed three people and injured several others.

The preliminary investigation suggest the Bikramjit was acting on the directions of his handlers based abroad. He reportedly also arranged a consignment of illegal weapons from Pakistan that were meant to be used to carry out crimes across Punjab.

Police recovered a total of four pistols and one revolver along with several live cartridges from the possession of the accused.

According to the police, a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the network’s backward and forward links — including the arms supply chain and foreign connections.

The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantle the organised crime and terror networks in the state, stressing that strict action will continue against such elements to preserve peace and security in Punjab.
