PTC Web Desk: A married woman was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon near Ganda Kheri village on Rajpura Road in Patiala district, triggering outrage among her family members who have accused her husband and in-laws of involvement.

The deceased has been identified as Ramanpreet Kaur, a native of Shahbad who had been married for seven years. She is survived by two young daughters.

According to her family, they received a phone call around 7 pm informing them that a dispute had broken out at Ramanpreet’s residence. Concerned, relatives tried repeatedly to contact her and her husband, Gurmeet Singh, but their calls went unanswered. Sensing something was wrong, the family rushed to the local police station, where they were informed that Ramanpreet had been killed.

Her brother, Simran Singh, alleged that there had been ongoing domestic disputes in her marital home. He said the family had returned from a wedding function earlier that evening when they were alerted about the altercation. “We kept calling, but no one picked up. When we reached the police station, we were told she had been murdered,” he said.

A relative also claimed that despite the family’s objections, the police shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

Confirming the development, DSP Ghanaur Harmanpreet Singh Cheema said Ramanpreet was originally from Shahbad and had been married in Patiala district. Based on the statement of her brother, the police have registered a case against her husband Gurmeet Singh, her brother-in-law, her maternal uncle-in-law, and her mother-in-law.

Police teams have launched raids to arrest the accused and are investigating all angles, including allegations of prior domestic discord. The body has been sent for post-mortem and further legal proceedings are underway.
