PTC News Desk: An inquiry has been ordered into the purchase of 144 Toyota Hilux vehicles bought for use by the Sadak Surakhya Force launched by the Punjab government.
Following a letter from the office of Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, the state’s Home Department has assigned the investigation to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab.
The investigation order was issued on October 31, 2025. The probe is to be completed within fifteen days, and the report must be submitted to the complainant, as well as to the Governor’s Office and the Home Department. This means the investigation report is due by November 15, 2025. The letter has now gone viral on social media.
Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira had raised this issue three months ago, questioning why the Punjab government did not avail the discount offered by Toyota when purchasing 144 Toyota Hilux vehicles in bulk for the Road Safety Force in 2024.

According to Khaira, individual buyers are offered a discount of ₹10 lakh on the same Toyota Hilux model. He alleged that if the Aam Aadmi Party government had availed this discount, it could have saved approximately ₹14.5 crore on the purchase of 144 vehicles.
