Sri Akal Takht Sahib orders immediate halt to Sikh animation film ‘Hind Di Chadar’; govt asked to stop Nov 21 release
Terming this move 'inappropriate and unacceptable', Sri Akal Takht Sahib has instructed the SGPC to write to the Government of India and the Punjab Government to ensure the film is not released
PTC Web Desk: The Akal Takht Secretariat has issued a decisive directive imposing a complete ban on the upcoming animated film “Hind Di Chadar” produced by Baweja Movies Pvt Ltd., Mumbai. The order follows a detailed report submitted by Sikh scholars and the designated sub-committee, which flagged multiple theological, historical and cinematic inaccuracies in the film, elements the Sikh community considers unacceptable.
According to the Secretariat, the SGPC’s Dharam Parchar Committee had already passed Resolution No. 651 on December 13, 2022, which strictly prohibits the production of films or animation featuring Sikh Gurus, their family members, Sikh martyrs, revered personalities and Sikh traditions.

This stance was reaffirmed during a special congregation held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on May 2, 2025, where Panthic leaders, intellectuals and scholars unanimously concluded that no depiction or dramatisation of Sikh Gurus or their families could be allowed in film or animation form.
In line with these principles, the Akal Takht Jathedar has formally banned “Hind Di Chadar.” The Secretariat also expressed concern over the official posters released by the production house announcing the film’s theatrical release on November 21, 2025.
Terming this move “inappropriate and unacceptable,” Sri Akal Takht Sahib has instructed the SGPC to write to the Government of India and the Punjab Government to ensure the film is not released. The directive further warns that if the movie is screened despite the ban, it will be deemed a violation of Sikh sentiments, warranting strict legal action.
The communication also includes the sub-committee’s report and the relevant SGPC resolution for reference.
