PTC Web Desk:  The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim relief to popular rapper Badshah in connection with the controversy surrounding his song ‘Tateeree'. The court has stayed his arrest for the time being, providing temporary protection against coercive action.

The development comes after the Haryana State Commission for Women issued directions for Badshah’s arrest due to his failure to appear before the commission. The commission had taken strong objection to the alleged obscene lyrics and portrayal of women in the song.

Badshah had approached the High Court challenging the arrest orders. While hearing his petition, the court ordered a temporary halt on his arrest, offering relief until further proceedings.

The case stems from two FIRs registered in Haryana over the controversial content of the song. Following the High Court’s order, the police are now expected to withdraw the lookout notice issued against the rapper.

Earlier, the women’s commission, led by its chairperson Renu Bhatia, had expressed strong displeasure over Badshah’s repeated absence. He was summoned to appear before officials in Panipat but failed to do so on multiple occasions.

His legal representatives had informed the commission that the artist was occupied with prior commitments and sought additional time to appear. However, the request did not go down well with the commission.

After setting a deadline for appearance, the commission ordered strict action when Badshah failed to comply. It directed the Panchkula and Panipat police to arrest him and even recommended the seizure of his passport to prevent him from leaving the country.

The controversy revolves around allegations that the song Tateeree contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that allegedly misrepresent women. The commission had earlier issued a notice on March 6, asking the rapper to appear in person. A request for a virtual appearance citing security concerns was also rejected.

The matter is now likely to proceed further in court as legal scrutiny continues.
