PTC Web Desk: A pall of gloom descended on Chak Alia village near Dinanagar in Gurdaspur after the tragic news of the death of a youth from the village in Kuwait under mysterious circumstances. He had moved abroad around 15 months ago in search of a better livelihood. The deceased has been identified as Manjit Singh. He was the sole breadwinner of his family.
It is learnt that the deceased had been married just a year ago and is survived by his elderly father and wife. His sudden death has left the family and the entire village in deep shock.
According to his father, Jaswant Singh, who works as a daily wager, Manjit had gone to Kuwait with the hope of improving the family’s financial condition. On Friday night, Manjit spoke to his wife over the phone, telling her that he was feeling uneasy and unable to digest whatever he ate. Although he was advised to go to the hospital, he could not make it there. His last call was around midnight. The following morning, one of his friends informed the family that he had passed away.
Heartbroken and devastated, his father has appealed to both the Punjab and Central governments to ensure that his son’s mortal remains are brought back to the village at the earliest so that the family can perform the last rites.
