The Jathedar directed all members, including those associated with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), as well as Sikh organisations, groups and sects, to maintain high standards of conduct and keep their character clean.

The Jathedar said that if anyone believes that a person is involved in such conduct, they should distance themselves from that individual to ensure that the reputation of any institution is not affected.

FIR against SGPC member

An FIR has been registered against a member of the Shriomani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Amarjit Singh Chawla over allegations of sexual assault, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. Following the allegations, Chawla resigned from all the SGPC posts.

Sri Anandpur Sahib police registered the case on August 21, 2026, based on a woman’s complaint, under Sections 64, 127(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant also recorded her statement before a judicial magistrate.

Action against Giani Malkit Singh

The five Sikh high priests also took a decision regarding allegations that Giani Malkit Singh, Additional Head Granthi, had sent obscene messages to a woman.

According to the decision, Giani Malkit Singh has also been excommunicated from the Sikh community. Sikhs have been directed not to communicate with him, and he has been barred from working in Sikh institutions for life.

The woman alleged that Chawla raped her repeatedly, kept her confined and threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
