Punjabi University vice-chancellor Prof Arvind has suspended two officials and terminated a contractual peon after a fact-finding committee indicting them in an embezzlement case.
Those suspended by Punjabi University in the embezzlement case have been identified as senior assistant Nishu Chaudhary and superintendent Raminder Kaur while the peon has been identified as Jatinder Singh. Both Nishu and Ramnider are regular employees and they have been transferred from the university as well.

All three of them were posted in the varsity’s department of planning and monitoring.

As per the report, this is for the first time in the past five years that the Punjabi University has taken strict action against the erring officials. It has been hit by a various number of corruption cases and bungling of funds.
The Vice-chancellor Prof Arvind said that stringent action was required as the matter was serious. Adding, he said that a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the suspended employees.
The departmental inquiry will be carried out by the three-member fact-finding committee. It comprises registrar Varinder Kaushik, dean (research) Ashok Tiwari, and finance officer Rakesh Khurana.
The matter came to light after the internal audit department and the finance wing flagged issues in five bills amounting to Rs 6 lakh.
