Himachal CM Sukhu announces STF to curb drug mafia

Shimla, March 23: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday declared that to curb the drug menace and to take stringent action against the drug peddlers, a Special Task Force (STF) would be formed. 

In a meeting that was organised with senior law and police officials, Special Task Force would be formed to break the supply chain and take stern action against the drug mafia. According to the release, "An advisory Board under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act would also be constituted to check the menace.”

"He stated this in a meeting with senior officers of the Police, Home and Law Departments here last evening to initiate strict measures to curb the drug menace in the State," according to the press release.

Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu further said that there will be modern rehabilitation and  de-addiction centre with latest equipments will be set up. The centres will also have skilled support staff. Himachal CM further said that drugs are weakening today’s youth and it is the need of the hour. 

"We will seek the support of the Union Government to evolve a mechanism to share intelligence inputs and take joint actions to control the problem in an effective manner by making necessary amendments in the central legislation on drug menace," he added.

CM further stressed by saying that, that people should be made aware of the ill effects of drugs. We need to coordinate with the neighbouring States to check this menace, especially in the border areas.
