Shimla: Woman consume 'chitta' packet during police encounter; retrieval done via endoscopy
Chandigarh, August 18: In a startling incident in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla, a 26-year-old woman allegedly ingested a small packet of 'chitta' (a synthetic drug) as her car was halted by the police for inspection. The incident occurred around 8 am on Friday, following a police tip-off.
A police team, led by Head Constable Yogesh from the Dhalli police station, intercepted a car near Cemetery Tunnel in Sanjauli for routine checking. The vehicle carried four young individuals along with the woman.
Upon receiving signals to stop, the woman purportedly removed a tiny plastic packet containing 'chitta' and ingested it with water in an apparent bid to evade detection.
During questioning, one of the male passengers revealed the woman's act of swallowing the packet to the police.
Subsequently, the woman was swiftly transported to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla. An X-ray confirmed the presence of the packet within her stomach.
Prompt action ensued, with the police coordinating with medical professionals to conduct an endoscopy procedure to remove the 'chitta'-laden packet from her stomach. The extracted packet contained approximately 7.6 grams of the illicit substance.
The woman hails from the Kotkhai tehsil in Shimla district. The accused individuals have been remanded to one day of police custody, and the vehicle has been seized. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
