AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine set to become first to get approval in India: Report
COVID-19 Vaccine in India: India’s drug regulator is set to approve the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University for emergency use, a report stated.
India has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world after the United States. The development would pave the way for the COVID-19 vaccine’s rollout in India.

As per the report, India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) could also give a nod to the vaccine developed locally by Bharat Biotech. Meanwhile, the sources stated that "CDSCO expert panel set to recommend approving Oxford COVID-19 vaccine Covishield for emergency use in India."
India’s government on Wednesday said that Pfizer Inc had sought time to present data for emergency authorisation of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Earlier on December 30, 2020, the United Kingdom's regulator approved a coronavirus vaccine for the use developed by the Oxford University-AstraZeneca.
The UK government stated the “Government has accepted the recommendation from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to authorise vaccine developed by the Oxford University-AstraZeneca.”
The UK was one of the worst-hit countries due to the coronavirus pandemic where travel restrictions have been imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19, especially after it reported a new mutated strain of the novel coronavirus.
