At least 168 terrorists operating in J-K, 75 killed: Reports
Jammu and Kashmir, May 12: As many as 168 terrorists are operating in Jammu and Kashmir, while 75 have been killed in encounters with security forces this year, officials informed on Thursday.
According to the reports, those neutralised during the security force's operations include 21 foreign mercenaries.
In the last 11 months, 11 terrorists have been encountered and 12 infiltration bids were also foiled in the area of the Line of Control (LoC) alone, officials said.
"Until all of the remaining 168 plus terrorists surrender or are killed, the intensity of (counter-terrorism) operations would remain high," a senior army officer was quoted saying by the media.
The senior official also mentioned that the overall situation is progressively improving due to the proactive army-guided deployment, creating a positive environment to accelerate the government's development initiatives.

Peace dividends have begun to reach the people, and they are becoming increasingly motivated to preserve and sustain peace, the officer stated.
Security forces neutralized 180 terrorists in 2021, 18 of whom were foreign elements. The official attributed this to a well-coordinated intelligence network and civil population backing.
In the first four months of this year, 87 overground workers (OGWs) were arrested, compared to 495 last year.
"Any attempt by the adversary to breach the ceasefire, infiltrate, or engage in any other misadventure will be met firmly and strongly," the officer stated.
