Kolkata, May 6: The West Bengal government has instructed all private schools in the state to stop offline classes from Saturday and switch to online classes. The major development comes as scorching heatwave continues to grip India. In view of the extreme heatwave, the principal secretary to the school education department asked the private schools to hold online classes “if they do not wish to advance the vacation time from May 2." He also instructed asked private schools to not take any “unilateral decision against state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee" on this issue. She also urged that all private schools follow suit. Several private schools, on the other hand, had chosen to continue with the offline sessions. The education department official further stated that the board examinations of classes 10 and 12 will not be affected and will continue as scheduled.
