Chandigarh to soon have option of on-the-spot traffic challan payment
After almost 9 years, the Chandigarh Police is planning to introduce the e-challan system through which the violators can pay traffic fines on the spot. As per the e-challan system, the violators will be no longer have to visit the Traffic lines in Sector 29.
Earlier, the violators had to visit traffic lines to pay the fine but now it will be conducted by the traffic cops on the spot. Surely, this will reduce the crowd at the Traffic Lines and will also avoid long queues to pay the fine.
Reportedly, the traffic cops will be having e-challan machines. It will also produce the history of challans along with the payment status of the fine.
A police official said that the on-spot payment of the fine will be cashless as it will have to be paid using debit or credit card. The official said that the police would need documents only when the violator is not able to pay on the spot.
The e-challan machine worth Rs 55 lakh is sponsored by a private bank, a report suggested.

However, the fines for non-compoundable offences that include drunken driving, over-speeding, red light jumping and driving while talking on a mobile phone, will not be accepted on the spot as the driving licence is recommended for a suspension to the court. The on-the-spot payment of challans will not be available for these offences.
