Chandigarh University sets Guinness World Record for 'largest human image of waving Nat'l flag'

Chandigarh, August 13: Chandigarh University and NID Foundation on Saturday set the Guinness World Record for the 'largest human image of a waving national flag," in the Union Territory.

India on Saturday smashed the earlier record of UAE. As many as 5,885 people gathered to set the new record at Chandigarh's Sector 16 Stadium.

Union minister Meenakashi Lekhi was also present at the occasion.


"The title for this record is 'Largest Human Image of a Waving National Flag.' One such record was set in the UAE, years ago. Today, that record has been broken, thanks to the participation of 5,885 people," Swapnil Dangarikar, Guinness World Record Official Adjudicator said after the feat was achieved.

Earlier in the day, 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign was kicked off under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, encouraging people to bring the national flag home and hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's independence.

On the occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with his wife Sonal also hoisted the Tiranga at his residence in the national capital on Saturday.


The 75th anniversary of India's independence campaign, launched as part of "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav," will continue til; August 15. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence, the Central government has asked citizens to hoist or display the tricolour in their houses from August 13 to August 15.
