Union minister Smriti Irani’s convoy was stopped while the Amethi MP was heckled by Congress workers in Varanasi on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Smriti Irani lashed out at Rahul Gandhi’s planned visit to Hathras and called it a “politics on rape”. While addressing a press conference, Smriti Irani said that action against rapists of Hathras rape victim, a Dalit teenager, will be taken after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) would submit its report. Smriti Irani She said that "People are aware Congress' tactics of that is why they ensured a historic win for BJP in 2019 polls. People understand that their visit to Hathras is for their politics and not for justice to the victim." Two officials have been suspended and I am sure that action will be taken after the SIT submits its report."
