India reported 465 deaths and the highest single-day spike of 15,968 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, as of Wednesday morning. The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has increased to 4,56,183 including 1,83,022 active cases, 2,58,685 cured and discharged and 14,476 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday stated that 73,52,911 samples have been tested till June 23. A total of 2,15,195 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
Of new deaths, 248 were reported from Maharashtra, 68 from Delhi, 39 from Tamil Nadu, 26 from Gujarat, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, 9 from Rajasthan, 11 from West Bengal, 4 from Madhya Pradesh, 9 from Haryana, 8 each from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, 3 from Telangana and 1 each from Kerala, Puducherry, and Bihar.
Likewise, 2 new deaths were reported from Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha and Uttarakhand each, 4 from Punjab.
Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state by coronavirus as it has reported 1,39,010 cases of COVID-19 out of which 69,631 have been cured and discharged while a total of 6,531 have succumbed to the pandemic.
Delhi is on the second with 66,602 cases out of which 39,313 have been cured and 2,301 died due to the pandemic. Similarly, Tamil Nadu, on third, has reported 64,603 cases out of which 35,339 have recovered while 833 died due to the contagion disease.
