India reports highest-ever spike, records nearly 20,000 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

India reported 410 deaths and highest-ever single-day spike of 19,906 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as of Sunday morning. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 5,28,859 including 2,03,051 active cases, 3,09,713 cured and discharged and 16,095 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated that the total number of samples tested up to 27 June is 82,27,802 of which 2,31,095 samples were tested yesterday. In the meanwhile, the AIIMS Director, who had earlier said that the coronavirus peak in India is likely in June-July, said that India is vulnerable to the second wave of COVID-19." COVID-19 tests breach the ceiling of 2 lakhs/day | Coronavirus India Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state due to coronavirus with 1,59,133 cases followed by Delhi at 80,188 and Tamil Nadu at 78,335. Similarly, in Delhi, 28,329 are active, 49,301 are cured and 2,558 succumbed to the pandemic. Tamil Nadu has reported only 1025 deaths while 33,216 are active cases and 44,094 patients have been cured and discharged.
