India reports highest-ever single-day spike of close to 17,296 cases in last 24 hours

India reported 407 deaths and the highest single-day spike of 17,296 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 4,90,401 including 1,89,463 active cases, 2,85,637 cured and discharged and 15301 deaths, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said on Friday. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated that the total number of samples tested up to June 25 is 77,76,228 while the number of samples tested on June 25 is 2,15,446. Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state in the country with 1,47,741 cases of coronavirus, The active cases in the state are 63,357 while the number of cured and discharged stands at 77,453 while the death toll has increased to 6,931. COVID-19 tests breach the ceiling of 2 lakhs/day | Coronavirus India Meanwhile, Maharashtra Police stated that in the last 24 hours, 2 deaths and 190 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Maharashtra Police. The total number of positive cases rises to 4516 while 56 deaths have been reported so far.
