The collapse occurred as Delhi faced continuous heavy rainfall since Friday night, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the day.

2 children among 8 killed as wall collapses in south-east Delhi amid heavy rains

PTC News Desk: At least eight killed and several others injured after a wall collapsed due to heavy rains in n Hari Nagar, located in the Jaitpur area of south-east Delhi. Several residents, mostly scrap dealers living in makeshift huts, were trapped when a wall next to an old temple suddenly collapsed. They were taken to Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS for treatment but succumbed to their injuries. 


The deceased have been identified as Shabibul (30), Rabibul (30), Muttu Ali (45), Rubina (25), Dolly (25), Hashibul, Rukhsana (6), and Hasina (7).

Police said the jhuggis have been evacuated to prevent such incidents in future.

"There is an old temple here, and next to it are old jhuggies where scrap dealers live. The wall collapsed due to heavy rain overnight. We have now evacuated these jhuggies so that no such incidents occur in future," senior police officer Aishwarya Sharma said.

On Raksha Bandhan morning, the downpour caused severe waterlogging in several areas and flooded underpasses, leading to massive traffic jams and disrupting the weekend plans of many residents.
