PTC News Desk: Director Honey Trehan and Diljit Dosanjh’s recently released film Satluj was taken down from the Zee5 platform days after its long-delayed release.

According to the sources said that some parts of the movie could potentially be misused by anti-India elements.

The film, originally titled Punjab 95, faced years of delays before finally being released on ZEE5 last Friday under the new title Satluj. According to sources, the film was taken down after a detailed review.

Sources also pointed out that the makers had initially sought a theatrical release for the film. However, it was later released on an OTT platform after it was unable to obtain approval for a cinema release in its existing form.

The concerns reportedly centered on certain scenes and content in the film that authorities believed could be used by anti-India forces for their own purposes.

Although OTT platforms do not require certification like films released in theatres, they are still subject to self-regulation guidelines and government oversight, especially when content is considered sensitive.

Satluj, originally titled Punjab ’95, took more than three years to reach audiences. When the makers applied for a theatrical release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly asked for over 125 cuts to the film. The filmmakers chose not to make those changes, and as a result, the movie remained unreleased in cinemas for several years.

The film was eventually released on an OTT platform in its original, uncut form. However, just two days after its digital release, it was removed from streaming in India.

ZEE5 has not clarified whether the film’s removal is connected to the earlier certification disputes. In its statement, the platform only said that the movie was unavailable due to “current developments” and did not provide any further details.
