Amid concerns over "fake" voter ID cards, a delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party, led by Punjab BSP president Jasvir Singh Garhi, on Friday called on Phagwara SDM Kulpreet Singh. The Assembly elections in Punjab are due in 2022.

Punjab BSP president Jasvir Singh Garhi informed Phagwara SDM Kulpreet Singh that recently, they held a review meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner in view of the Assembly elections in Punjab in 2022. They took up with him the issue of vote rigging by some political parties.

The state BSP president alleged that some political parties were making fake voter ID cards of migrant workers, who come to Punjab only during peak working days. They were not natives of Punjab.

He alleged that in almost all booths in the Phagwara Assembly constituency, 30,000 votes belonged to migrant workers. He appealed to the Phagwara SDM to look into the issue and take the requisite action.
It has been alleged that some political parties are making fake voter ID cards of migrant workers.
The SAD-BSP delegation included Jathedar Sarwan Singh Kular, Satnam Singh Arshi, Manohar Lal Jakhu, Chiranji Lal Kala, Tejpal Basra, Paramjit Khalwara and Pradeep Mall.
The Assembly elections in Punjab are due in 2022.
