Farm laws: SAD submits memo to PM Modi through Executive Magistrate

SAD Parliament march: The Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Friday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Executive Magistrate seeking the repeal of the three farm laws. In the memorandum to PM Narendra Modi, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) also sought legal guarantee on the MSP as well as the purchase of all major crops. The SAD demanded that farmers should be consulted before bringing in any legislation, which could affect their livelihood. Also read | Chandigarh bans use of drones over security threat Notably, to mark one year of the enactment of the three farm laws, the Shiromani Akali Dal had planned a protest march from Gurdwara Rakab Ganj in New Delhi till Parliament on September 17. However, the Union Government and the Delhi Police denied permission, though the SAD continued with its plan to hold the protest march. Earlier, on late September 16 evening, a large number of SAD workers were stopped from entering Delhi. The Delhi Police sealed all entry points, forcing SAD workers to stage dharnas at the borders and raise slogans against the Union Government. As per information shared by the Delhi Police, the workers were taken to the Sansad Marg police station. Condemning the detention of his party workers, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said, "The Central and Haryana governments stopped our workers and resorted to baton charge. They broke our vehicles. They stopped a peaceful protest. We have come here to give a message to the Centre that not only Punjab, but the entire country is against this government," he added.
