Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale, on Thursday, briefed the media about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the US from the late afternoon of September 21 until the forenoon of September 27 and the two cities on his itinerary are Houston in Texas and New York.”

Talking about his schedule on September 22, Gokhale said, “On September 22nd, the highlight will be the Prime Minister’s address to the Indian community. We are delighted that President Donald Trump will also be present there.” On September 24, the event titled “Leadership matters – Relevance of Gandhi in contemporary times,” will be held in the United Nations.

“We are delighted that the Prime Minister will be joined by heads of government, including President of the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister of Singapore, PM of New Zealand, Bangladesh PM, Jamaica PM as well as the UN Secretary General,” Gokhale said. Talking about major launches, he tweeted, “3 launches are going to be done at this event. 1st, Gandhi solar park which is the installation of solar panels on roof top of UN HQs in New York from a grant of $ US 1 Mn that India has given to promote renewable energy & showcase our commitment to use of solar energy.”

He added, “Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s ‘Global Goalkeeper’s Award’ is given every year to a world leader for achievement in a specific sustainable development goal. This year, Gates Foundation is honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in the field of sanitation through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”
