George Floyd's family receives $27 mn settlement from Minneapolis

George Floyd Death in United States: US' Minneapolis agreed to pay $27 million (approx ₹196 crore) to settle a lawsuit by the family of George Floyd who died in police custody. The incident stirred nationwide protests over racial injustice and police brutality. The 46-year-old, Floyd, died in May 2020, as Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes. The incident was captured on widely viewed bystander video that sparked one of the largest protest movements ever seen in the United States. Floyd's sister Bridgett Floyd said that the family was pleased that the tragic journey to justice for her brother George was resolved. Last year, the relatives of Floyd sued the city, Chauvin and three other police officers, saying that police used excessive force against Floyd in violation of his constitutional rights.
