Goa elections 2022: Congress releases 3rd list of candidates, Michael Lobo to contest from Calangute

Panaji: The Congress on Tuesday released the third list of candidates for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections that are scheduled to take place on February 14. Michael Lobo, former state minister who recently quit the BJP to join the Congress, will contest from the Calangute constituency.

Besides Michael, his wife Delilah Lobo also joined the Congress on January 11. The Goa Congress released the list of nine candidates on its official Twitter handle which includes Anthony L Fernandes, who is set to contest from St Andre assembly seat, Lavu Mamlekar from Marcaim and Prasad Gaonkar from Sanguem among others.


[caption id="attachment_571215" align="aligncenter" width="750"] The Goa Congress released the list of nine candidates on its official Twitter handle.[/caption] The Congress has also fielded Sudhir Kandolkar from Mapusa Assembly constituency, Tony Rodrigues from Taleigao, Rajesh Verenkar from Ponda, Sankalp Amonkar from Mormugao, Yuri Alemao from Cuncolim and Altone D'Costa from Quepem constituency in the list announced earlier on December 16. Shiv Sena, NCP may form alliance in Goa Meanwhile, stating that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) wanted to contest along with Congress in the upcoming Goa Assembly elections, senior NCP leader Nawab Malik said due to the opposition by some local leaders, the alliance could not be formed. He further said the Shiv Sena, which was the alliance partner in the Maharashtra government, had expressed a desire to join hands with the NCP and the decision on the formation of an alliance with the Shiv Sena would be taken after party general secretary Praful Patel and Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad hold a meeting with the state unit of the NCP.
