Happy Birthday Nagarjuna: Those who grew up in the 90s would know Nagarjuna as the Southern hunk whose acting was such that he could make the most unbelievable shots and plots look convincing. He hit the India film circuit in the 90s, an interesting time for the film industry and the audience, with both being exposed to international trends on a large scale for the first time. Nagarjuna was just enough of the angst-ridden Indian hero and Hollywood cowboy to make an impression with his raw masculinity.
As luck would have it, he debuted as an angry young man in Bollywood. When he was cast opposite two film world titans – Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi in Khuda Gawah, not only did he hold his ground but actually made quite an impression. On his birthday, his family’s weeklong bash in Ibiza, Spain seems a fitting tribute to the man with the piercing gaze. The actor, along with his wife, Amala, has left for Spain, where other family members are already present.
Akkineni Nagarjuna was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to veteran actor late Nageswar Rao Akkineni and Annapurna Akkineni. The family later moved to Hyderabad, where they are presently based.
Nagarjuna is known for his work in Telugu and Hindi films. His films like Meri Jung – One Man Army, Don No. 1, are still watched repeatedly.
So far, Nagarjuna has won nine state Nandi Awards, three Filmfare Awards South and a National Film Award-Special Mention. Likewise, in 1996, he produced the film Ninne Pelladata, which even bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. He was last seen in the film Manmadhudu, which was again a blockbuster.
