Coronavirus vaccine will be developed by end of this year: Dr. Harsh Vardhan

Coronavirus vaccine in India: While everyone is waiting for the coronavirus vaccine, the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that "one of our COVID-19 vaccine candidates is in the third phase of the clinical trial. We are very confident that a vaccine will be developed by end of this year." He also said that "As far as COVID19 numbers are concerned, our fatality rate (1.87 percent) is really low and we have the best recovery rate (75 percent) in the world." We have around 1500 testing labs now. It is a great achievement in itself," Dr. Harsh Vardhan added. On the other hand, the Serum Institute of India clarifies that the current claims over COVISHIELD's availability in the media are completely false and conjectural. It stated that the government has granted permission to only manufacture the vaccine and stockpile it for future use. It also stated that "COVISHIELD will be commercialized once trials are proven successful and requisite regulatory approvals are in place." Phase-3 trials for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine are underway. Only once the vaccine is proven immunogenic and efficacious, SII will confirm its availability officially, it said.
