Indian football skipper Sunil Chhetri doesn't count the number of goals he scored in international football, he said, despite surpassing Argentina star Lionel Messi's tally.
Sunil Chhetri has added another feather to his cap as he surpassed Lionel Messi to become the second-highest active international goalscorer.
He achieved the feat when he struck a goal to help India defeat Bangladesh 2-0 in the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and AFC Asian Cup China Qualifiers at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club in Doha.
Chhetri scored both his goals in the second half of the match. On being asked is he counting on a number of goals, he replied: "I don't".
Sunil Chhetri has now scored 74 goals, two more than Lionel Messi. He is only behind Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo (103) in the list of active footballers with the most international goals. Ali Mabkhout has secured the third spot having scored 73 goals.
Last week, Qatar had defeated India 1-0 in the tournament.
Meanwhile, India moved to 6 points from 7 matches, while Bangladesh is at 2 points from 7 matches. Now, India will take on Afghanistan in their last group league match on June 15.
