India logs 7,584 new Covid-19 cases, 24 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, June 10: India logged 7,584 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, more than 300 cases than a day before, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.

The active cases in the country jumped to 36,267, constituting 0.08 percent of the total caseload. At least 3,35,050 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the daily positivity rate was observed to be 2.26 percent. Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate was recorded to be 1.50 percent.

According to the data updated by the health ministry, 3,791 Covid-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries from the illness since the onset of the pandemic to 4,26,44,092. The recovery rate now stands at 98.70 percent.

Daily Covid positivity rate at 2.26%

With the death of 24 Covid-19 patients during this period, the death toll jumped to 5,24,747.

Talking about the nationwide vaccination drive, over 194.76 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far. After a surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, the Health Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in several states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi and Karnataka. The ministry has asked states and UTs to follow the five-fold strategy and amp-up testing, said official sources on Thursday.

The Health Ministry also asked the states to monitor clusters of fresh coronavirus cases and follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan recently wrote to officials in five states, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, urging them to actively monitor emerging clusters, maintain an adequate number of tests, and send samples from infected individuals for genome sequencing.
