Javed Akhtar defamation case: A Mumbai court on Tuesday allowed Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in a defamation complaint filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar. The court said that it would issue a warrant against Kangana Ranaut if she failed to appear on the next date of hearing on September 20. He said that the actor had been travelling for the promotion of her film. He even said she had "developed Covid symptoms". However, Javed Akhtar's lawyer said that it was an orchestrated tactic to delay the case proceedings. The lyricist's lawyer added that Kangana had been refusing to appear before the court ever since summons were issued to her in February this year. After hearing, the metropolitan magistrate RR Khan allowed Kangana to be exempted from appearance for the day. He then posted the matter for September 20. Likewise, the magistrate stated that if the actor failed to appear at the next hearing in the Javed Akhtar defamation case, a warrant would be issued against her. -PTC News
