Karnal lathicharge was carried out at behest of govt, alleges Surjewala
Karnal Mini-Secretariat gherao: Amid the deadlock between the Karnal administration and protesting farmers over the August 28 lathicharge incident, Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has tweeted a video, wherein Deputy Commissioner, Karnal, Nishant Yadav can be heard as saying "any such action is initiated after orders from the government".
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted that," The truth of the Karnal lathicharge has come to light. The Chief Minister gave the order to the then SDM to smash the heads of farmers, that is why no action is being taken against him".

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait was among those who led protesters to the Mini-Secretariat after talks with the administration broke down. Another round of talks on September 8 also failed.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which is heading the farmers' agitation against the three farm laws, had given a call for the gherao of the Mini-Secretariat, demanding the registration of an FIR against those officials who had allegedly ordered lathicharge on agitators during their protest against a BJP event in Karnal on August 28.
