Kerala ‘Love Jihad’ Case: I want freedom; SC asks her to resume studies
The Supreme Court on Monday sent Akhila to go to her Homoeopathic Medical College to resume internship/house surgeonship in Selam, Tamil Nadu. A three-judge bench by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra passed the order after a two-and-a-half-hour hearing during which it interacted with her. "I want freedom... release....I have been under mental stress for 11 months," she told the bench. The judges interacted with her for around 20 minutes and asked questions about her career. However, she repeatedly said she also wanted to follow her faith (Islam) and join her husband. The bench kept all the issues raised by Akhila's father Ashokan and the Kerala government and posted the matter for further hearing in the third week of January 2018. The court asked the Kerala government to arrange for her travel to Selam during which she will be accompanied by a policewoman in plain clothes. Along with this, the court asked the Dean of the College to inform it about any problems regarding her studies and stay in hostel. -PTC News
