In a major turn of events in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh elections 2022, the main accused of Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Ashish Mishra, has been granted bail. Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra is accused of running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. Local farmers had blamed Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra 'Teni' and his son Ashish Mishra for Lakhimpur Kheri violence that left eight dead, including four farmers, a local journalist, and three others. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the Centre was trying to "save the accused" in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident. "The entire country has seen the truth of the 5,000-page chargesheet in the form of a video. Yet the Modi government is trying to save the accused. India is witness," Gandhi said in a tweet.
