Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Main accused Ashish Mishra gets bail
In a major turn of events in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh elections 2022, the main accused of Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Ashish Mishra, has been granted bail.
Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra is accused of running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri.

A vehicle had allegedly crushed down farmers who were protesting against the farm laws on October 3.
Local farmers had blamed Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra 'Teni' and his son Ashish Mishra for Lakhimpur Kheri violence that left eight dead, including four farmers, a local journalist, and three others.
They were mowed down allegedly by a vehicle that was part of the convoy of the Minister in Lakhimpur Kheri in north-central Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the Centre was trying to "save the accused" in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident.
Gandhi had attacked the Centre on the day Uttar Pradesh Police filed a chargesheet against Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra and 13 others in the incident in which eight persons including four farmers were killed.
"The entire country has seen the truth of the 5,000-page chargesheet in the form of a video. Yet the Modi government is trying to save the accused. India is witness," Gandhi said in a tweet.
Congress and other opposition parties have been demanding the resignation of Ajay Mishra.
