Buddha Purnima 2023: Buddha Purnima and lunar eclipse on same day | Know significance and planetary position

Buddha Purnima 2023: Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is one of the most important festivals in the Buddhist calendar. This festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha, Gautama Siddhartha.

Buddha Poornima is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Vaisakha, which usually falls in April or May. This year, Buddha Poornima coincides with a lunar eclipse, which makes the festival even more special. In this article, we will explore the significance of Buddha Poornima on a lunar eclipse.

When does lunar eclipse occurs?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, and the Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. This causes the Moon to turn reddish-brown or orange, giving it the name "blood moon." In many cultures, lunar eclipses are considered significant events and are associated with various beliefs and superstitions.

In the context of Buddha Purnima, a lunar eclipse adds another layer of spiritual significance. According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away on a full moon day. The full moon represents the culmination of the Buddha's spiritual journey, and a lunar eclipse is believed to amplify the spiritual energy of the full moon.

In Buddhist astrology, the full moon day of Vaisakha is considered a highly auspicious day for spiritual practice. It is believed that the spiritual energy on this day is very strong, and any spiritual practice performed on this day is multiplied many times over. A lunar eclipse on Buddha Poornima is seen as a rare and powerful opportunity to connect with the spiritual energy of the universe.

On this day, Buddhists around the world observe Buddha Purnima by visiting temples and monasteries, offering prayers, and performing acts of charity. They also light candles and incense sticks, chant Buddhist scriptures, and meditate in honor of the Buddha. With the added spiritual significance of the lunar eclipse, many Buddhists may choose to perform additional spiritual practices, such as reciting mantras, performing prostrations, or engaging in more extended meditation sessions.

Planetary position on Vaishakh Purnima

On May 5, Saturn will be in its zodiac sign Aquarius. Saturn's third full vision will be on Sun, Guru, Rahu, and Mercury. Due to full moon, lunar eclipse and this planetary position, minor earthquakes and incidents of arson can happen in the country and across the world. Viral diseases can also have some effect. Jupiter has entered Aries. Sun, Rahu, Mercury are already present in this sign. The lord of Aries is Mars, who is a friend of Jupiter and Sun, and has equal feelings with Mercury, considers Rahu as an enemy. Chandal Yoga is being formed due to the conjunction of Guru-Rahu in Aries. Therefore, extra care should be taken while doing any big work in this yoga.
